Because if you already have a switch and want to get a little extra use from it, why not! This how-to will go over how to set up your Joy-Con controller so that you can use this as a hotkey remote. Since we’ll be using a key-mapper, this should work with most digital art software.
So, if any of these reasons make sense to you, here is how you can remap keyboard on your Windows 10, 8,7, and Windows machine. Remap Keys on Windows 10 with SharpKeys While Windows does allow you to remap the keys on your keyboard with a few registry tweaks, SharpKeys ( free ) is an open-source tool that does the complex-looking task for you. // WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
- Joy-Con Controller [Left or Right. I’m using the left one here]
- Joy-Con Wrist Strap
- Bluetooth Compatible Computer [Almost all modern machines have Bluetooth. If you are using some ancient machine, you’ll need a Bluetooth adapter]
- WINDOWS 10: Joytokey Key-mapping Software
- MAC: Either Joystick Mapper or Enjoyable Key-mapping Software

WINDOWS 10

First we need to get the Joy-Con to talk to our computer. To do this:
- Start Menu > Settings > Devices > Bluetooth
- Check to make sure Bluetooth is switched on. If it’s not turned on, turn it on.
- Turn on your Joy-Con by pressing the tiny button round button next to the flashing green lights on the side of the unit.
- Under the “Manage Bluetooth Devices” Panel, select the device labeled “Joy-Con(L)” or “Joy-Con®”. “Pair” with that device.
Next, we need to make the button on the Joy-Con do something. To do this:
- Download and install Joytokey
- Once installed, run Joytokey
- Under the “Options” tab, check to see if the Joy-Con has been detected. If it is, it should say something similar to “1 Joystick Detected”
From here it’s just a matter of mapping each button to a key/hotkey. In my case, I mapped the joystick’s axis to “[” and “]”, which control brush size on the fly. I also mapped the directional buttons to some of my tools and the hotkeys for zooming in and out. You can make the buttons do whatever you like though.
You can also use other key-mapping software if you so choose. I just prefer Joytokey.

You can also use other key-mapping software if you so choose. Personally I have had most success with the two mentioned above.
That’s it! Hope this was useful.
